My Pregnancy Week 8

Brought to you by
Pregnancy Week 8

Though you might not feel it, your baby, now about the size of a kidney bean (8-11 mm), is moving inside of you! Your baby’s facial features become more obvious this week because lips, tongue, nostrils, and buds for teeth have developed. Arms and legs are growing, elbows and knees develop, and fingers and toes, though still webbed, become visible. Any trace of your baby’s “tail” is almost entirely gone.

This week, your baby’s bones also begin to harden through a process called ossification. Inside your baby’s brain, nerve cells are branching out creating their first neural pathways. And though it’s still too early to discern your baby’s sex, as any external genital organs have yet to develop, an ultrasound at week eight could detect the beating of your baby’s little heart.

Im 8 weeks and 2 days and this is my first child/pregnancy…. Im already getting that “baby bump” and people tell me, i shouldnt be showing right now but im really a small person im tall and super skinny. I stay nauseous 24/7, does this sound normal??

    • Profile photo of Stefani Stefani says:

Every baby bump is different. Don’t listen to the naysayers. They will drive you crazy. I’m 8 weeks 5 days, and I feel I look 4 months pregnant. Lol. I also have read that feeling sick is not a bad thing. Women who feel “morning sickness” are less likely to miscarry. P.s. I normally get my “morning sickness” at night. Best of luck to you. #welcomebaby#3

    • Profile photo of Alicia Alicia says:

That’s totally normal. Everybody body is different and no one pregnancy is the same. I’m 8 weeks and 2 days and I have a little bitty baby bump.

its normal to be nervous and scared when your pregnant for the first time. it’s good that your boyfriend helps you out. that is always a plus. if he is around you enough he may even start getting your pregnancy symptoms. i know baby daddy did with my first child lol

I don’t know if anyone else ever tried, but last night I used an old wives tale to find out what I am having and it said I was having twins a boy and a girl.

my family always joked around with my cousins wife because she always ate slim jims so we said the baby would turn into a slim jim.. well im about to be 20 years old and im 2 months pregnant with my first and all I wanna eat is pizza nothing else is that ok? in a way I wish I had some friends to talk to about it all but ever since I found out I was pregnant and with me working I feel like I lost all of my friends:/

    • Profile photo of samantha samantha says:

when i was pregnant with my first i felt great and craved pizza all the time… if you can eat it then do it. it is nice to get some healthy snacks in there too like grapes, bananas, apples, salads, but i have found sometimes its better to eat whatever you can sromache, i found that out fast this time around

I am 8 weeks and 3 days, this is my first child and I can’t wait to hear the tiny heartbeat. I was not able to hear it at my last ultra sound at 6 weeks which i was told there should of been a slight heartbeat. Hoping for the best..

    • Profile photo of Vikki Jeanne Vikki Jeanne says:

That’s the same as me now. Were you able to hear it at the next one? When was your second ultrasound?

      • Profile photo of sunshine sunshine says:

I’m 8wks 4 days right now w my 3rd baby. And at my ultrasound at 5-6wks they couldn’t hear the heartbeat either, but dont panic, they could see a slight flashing that told them the heart was beating. You’ll hear it very soon mama to be!

I am so tired! Even though I do not look pregnant I feel it! I stay up late and wake up early. My biggest complant wood be the one I had since I found out I was pregnant, constipation! I take pills and try the home remedy of instant coffee to clear out when I cannot sleep at night!

    • Profile photo of Jessica Jessica says:

what have you taken to help with constipation? I have a craving for cheeze and i normally dont eat that stuff anyways because i have messed up bowels but to top it off this is what i have been eating and now im paying for it and i’ve tried rasins fiber chews, flax seed in dinner, and nothing yet? any suggestions would help

      • Profile photo of Melanie DenneyEditor Melanie Denney says:

Hi Jessica. Sorry about the constipation — not fun. Here is an article about it here, http://www.everydayfamily.com/constipation/. It actually suggests a lot of the things you’re already eating as far as the fiber intake goes. I could never give up cheese, pregnant or not, so there’s a little concoction that helps me — I just take a heaping tablespoon of coconut oil and stir it into a hot cup of coffee. When taken regularly, it helps get and keep things moving; just make sure to keep your caffeine intake in check. If that doesn’t help, then you may have to use something called a brown cow; a shot glass filled with equal parts prune juice and milk of magnesia. It’s an instant fix, so beware. Milk of magnesia is supposedly safe to take during pregnancy, but I would advise you to consult your doctor, just to make sure that you and your baby stay safe. Good luck, and I hope that you will find some relief soon!

I am pumped about this baby! I am 21 years old and experiencing first successful pregnancy. I am lucky and do not have morning sickness to bad. I however hate the smell of garlic! I have only puked twice in last 2 weeks.

  18. am excited about my pregnancy but experiencing severe morning sickness

    • Profile photo of Tyrie Tyrie says:

hi my name is tyrie and i went through the same thing during my first pregnancy. The best you can do is have crackers and water nearby. In my case i could only handle graham crackers and milk after the first month then i was able to eat more oatmeal and soups and juices the farther i got but the nausea never left. All i can say is take it slow and fin out what sets off your nausea and what doesnt. It gets easier.

I just went to dr yesterday for that reaso ! They have me on Zofran and OTC vitamin B6. I was able to eat dinner with my family last night for the first time in weeks! Hope you feel better!

      • Profile photo of Kelly Kelly says:

I also have been dealing with morning sickness, severely and I had been taking Vit B6 after talking with my pharmacist about it. I really didn’t have much luck with it, so I went to the Dr. and he rx’d me ondanestron and it does work but not fully. It takes away the edge and I can manage to at least get food down and keep it down. I then tried taking the B6 in combo with the rx and got the same result. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you!!

  23. Profile photo of Besa Besa says:

I am 8 weeks 1 day. It’s my first pregnancy and I feel so blessed and happy. I have not had any morning sickness so far. Just some random nausea here and there. Only my sense of smell is at the top of the roof. I can smell things even though they are far far away. Oh, and I am sooooooooo tired all the time, I’d sleep anytime if I had the chance. And I have very tender breasts. But I wouldn’t change them for the world, knowing that my little jewel is growing each day inside of me 🙂
